South Vietnam

In the south of Vietnam, you will find the biggest metropolis in all of Vietnam, Saigon (or Ho Chi Minh City), and the most fertile land near the Mekong Delta. Ho Chi Minh City is overwhelmingly big, with its metropolitan area counting more than eight million inhabitants. It feels more like a region of its own, with more Western feel than its counterpart in the north, Hanoi. Venture further south to the Mekong Delta, and discover the most fertile land in all of Vietnam. From Can Tho, a city situated on the Mekong, you can venture off on boat tours around the vast river, and visit the ever-present floating markets. The lifestyle on the Mekong is totally different than in the metropolis further to the north. Here, people live in harmony with the river, which provides fish and a wealth of irrigation for the numerous rice farms. Of course, there is seaside tourism developing along the coastline, with Phan Thiet definitely leading here due to its enormous waves valued by surfers around the world.
