Party time at the Trip 66.

I enjoy coming here on Thursdays as it gives out rustic local looks with chill vibes where expats and locals mingle. The Trip 66 used to be called Minsk Bar, owned by Vietnamese, and now it's still under Vietnamese management. They sell beers, cocktails, wine, spirits, and food! If you like singing and want to show off your talents, I say come to the Trip on Thursday evening as they organize weekly open mic night there. Besides Open Mic night, Trip 66 has a pool table for those keen on playing billiards!

The Maia bar is surprisingly very relaxing for a beach bar.

Whenever I feel like having a cocktail and chatting with my friends about anything, I go to Maia. It's a beach bar on My Khe Beach - one of Da Nang City's most beautiful beaches. The bar setup is comfy but elegant. They have good cocktails for 100,000 VND only! My poison is Negroni or Old Fashion as the taste is just right. The monthly Full Moon party with divine energy is one of my favorite events in Da Nang. I will paint you a picture: DJs are playing till late, people are dancing in the moonlight, and some are swimming on the beach. It's just perfect!

I don't come to Section 30 as often as other bars, but still, I highly recommend it due to the great craft beers, cocktails with all-day breakfast and brunch, finger food, weekly live music, and activities. The craft beers are at a decent price and are always fresh! Red wine and fish and chips are my go-to whenever I come here. Their food is just excellent! #9: Heaven Bar - Live Music and Chill Hub

The people visiting the Heaven are so diverse and friendly, and come from different parts of society and the world!

Heaven Bar was the first place I visited when I moved to Da Nang in 2018, and still my favorite place. It is known for its authentic look, lovely owner, and cheap drinks. I highly recommend this place to both expats and locals. In addition, it has a fun weekly open mic night on Tuesday hosted by foreign musicians. Nevertheless, friendly expats and locals with chill vibes are found here most compared to the rest of the bars I have mentioned!

#10: Faya Surf Bar

The ambience of Faya is extremely chill.

Faya stands out among all listed places above as it's not just a backpacker bar but also a surf and skate bar. It is a spot where local Vietnamese surfers and skaters hang out. Locals and expats built a skate park at Faya and still maintain it well today. They rent out surfboards and do surf/skate lessons for those who want to learn. The setup of the place is simple but hygge - a feeling of coziness, togetherness, and hominess. So if it sounds like your vibes, check it out!

Where do expats hang out in Da Nang?

Expats in Da Nang love to hang out in the An Thuong area.

With the most vivid and exciting lifestyle compared to the rest of the city, An Thuong Quarter in Ngu Hanh Son District is the heart of Da Nang, where most expats hang out. An Thuong area is on the city's beachside, with convenient stores and local street food open 24/7.

While you are here, let's see what are some pros and cons of being an expat in Vietnam.

It offers everything you need, from services to accommodations to recreational purposes. It is convenient! Most locals in this area can speak good English, which makes communication so much easier. The streets in this area are always full of life, filled with bars, pubs, restaurants, etc.

This place is where cultural exchange occurs evidently. An Thuong Quarter never sleeps!

How much is a beer in Da Nang?

The one and only – Larue Beer!

Are you a fan of drinking beer? Local beers in Vietnam are extra cheap compared to imported beers. The famous local beers are Huda, Larue, Saigon Bia, and Bia 333.

  • Loved by drinkers for its light taste and reasonable price, the cost is 20,000 - 25,000 VND for a bottle of cold beer.
  • The cost per bottle for craft beers such as Brother Grimms or Heart of Darkness is more expensive, from 70,000 - 150,000 VND.

Due to their low price and the climate, beers are a favorite beverage in Da Nang. As a result, sipping cold beer with friends and neighbors after working hours has become a part of people's culture.

If you want to escape the working hours to nature – don't miss out Son Tra – just nestled at the end of the beachfront.

Is Da Nang expensive?

Da Nang skyline from the 38th floor.

From my perspective, Da Nang City is not an expensive place to visit or to live compared to Sai Gon or Ha Noi. The average expenses in Da Nang are less than 400 USD per week for a tourist.

  • Motorbike rental is about 150,000 VND per day.
  • Food & drinks cost about 300,000 - 400,000 VND per day/3 meals.
  • Accommodations are cheap. If you stay in a private room, it can cost 350,000 - 1 million VND, depending on how luxurious and useful the service is. With homestays or hostels, the cost is from 90,000 to 300,000 VND.
