Sure, there are some downsides, like occasional heavy rain and humidity, short surf season, and small disorganized waves. But don't let that deter you. Wave riders, buckle up as in this guide, I will share some extremely helpful information and tips about Da Nang surfing for you.

When is the best time to surf in Da Nang?

According to the Da Nang surf forecast, the Da Nang surf season is around September to March. During that period, the temperature averaged 27 degrees Celsius. The waves at this time are typically moderate to large and the swells are powerful and consistent, providing an exciting challenge for sea adventurers.

While the waves may be more suitable for advanced surfers; beginners, don’t worry. With various surf schools and surf instructors, you can learn how to surf and have fun riding waves. I suggest learning to surf during the calm days so that you won’t feel too intimidated by big waves and gain more comfort and confidence in the water.

Overall, the surfing season in Da Nang from September to March offers a thrilling experience for surfers of different levels, with a range of wave conditions and various board options to choose from. The winter season is stimulating and challenging while the summer season offers chill and mellow vibes.

Perfect Da Nang beaches for surfing

There are a few good spots for surfing according to the Da Nang surf report and from my own experience. I will list them here for you with useful detailed information that will ensure you with an unforgettable experience.

  1. My Khe Beach
  2. Non Nuoc Beach
  3. Nam O Point
  4. Ha My Beach

Note: make sure to explore all the beaches of Da Nang when you are done with surfing, and thank us later! :)

My Khe Beach

My Khe Beach is the best place to go surfing in Da Nang.

It is a paradise for surfers seeking thrilling wave-riding experiences. This beach offers a variety of waves suitable for surfers of all levels from small to medium to big depending on the season when you surf. The water temperature ranges from 24 to 28 degrees Celsius. The optimum wave angle is from the northeast. Waves at the beach break both left and right.

In addition, it is important to be aware of potential rips, which can occur during certain tides. Rip or strong currents can pose risks for surfers by pulling them out to sea. It is important to be aware before you paddle out. If you get caught in rips, stay calm and escape them safely by swimming to your left or right.

You can find showers, and changing rooms in the beach area. My recommendations for restaurants and coffee shops nearby are Dana Beach Colour, Holiday Beach Cafe, Bikini Bottom Express, and Banh Mi Ba Dao.

If you are looking to stay near My Khe Beach for convenience, check out these places: Sweet Home Apartment, Pink Garden Hotel, and Senorita Boutique Hotel. Surf enthusiasts can find nearby surf shops such as Surf Shack and LST Surf Bar.

Nam O Point

Nam O Point provides reliable surfing conditions.

Nam O Point in Da Nang is an exposed beach that has reliable surf conditions. Winter is the best time of year for surfing here. During this time, waves are strong and big with rip currents and big rocks. It is challenging! Ideal winds are from the west-southwest with some shelter here from northeast winds. The beach breaks favor the left.

It is still a somewhat uninhabited area without showers, lockers, or changing rooms. There are a few restaurants and coffee shops nearby called: Goi Ca Nam O Restaurant, Quan Hai Restaurant, Genre Coffee, and Vy Coffee Shop. The ride to Nam O Point is quite far.

It takes about 25 minutes to drive from Da Nang city centre so make sure you have enough gas! But if you decide to stay nearby, here are some accommodations: Danang Mikazuki Japanese Resort and Spa, Le House Hotel and Studio, and Bolero Hotel Danang. With the convenience mentioned above, sadly, Nam O Beach still doesn’t have any surf shops nearby yet though it is a good spot for surfing.

Non Nuoc Beach

Waves on Non Nuoc Beach

Located near the famous tourist destination - Marble Mountain, Non Nuoc each is not only favored by its stunning view and crystal clear water but it is also loved by local surfers. The beach has a gentle slope, mild waves, and purely blue sea water during the four seasons. Offshore winds are from the west-southwest. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights. The best time to visit Non Nuoc beach is between April and September. The water temperatures are between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius.

Here are some places where you can grab a bite or a drink before your surfing sessions: Hoas Place, Pamela Pub, Y Thien Coffee Shop, and Hung 68 Food and Drink. If you want to stay in the area, there are various choices such as Melia Danang Beach & Resort, Sun River Hotel & Apartment, and TIA Wellness Resort - Spa Exclusive. Especially for sea-lovers, Hoa's Place and Not Pop are where you can rent out surfboards, paddleboards, and surf accessories.

Ha My Beach

Ha My Beach is a paradise for surfing near Hoi An.

If you are ever near Hoi An and want to surf, compared to An Bang Beach, Ha My has better, bigger waves for surfers. With crystal clear water and a nice view of Da Nang, it is not too crowded and secluded. The waves here are small to moderate and reach their highest peak during the winter. They break and go both left and right. The water temperature is from 25 to 28 degrees Celsius. When you surf here, watch out for dangerous rips. Compared to Da Nang beaches, the waves in Ha My are somewhat smaller.

Hoi An is also home to different types of day trips to take near Da Nang!

Nearby restaurants and coffee shops to fill your belly are Papa Shark Beach Restaurant, Ngoc Quy Restaurant, and Thu Ha Seafood Restaurant. In the area, there are some quite nice and lovely accommodations such as the Seaside bungalow, the Natural Bungalow, Hamya Beach House, and Le Belhamy Beach Resort and Spa. HoiAn Flow in Tan Thanh Beach and Go Surfing in An Bang Beach are the two closest and the only surf shops that you can find in the area. They rent out surfboards and paddleboards. HoiAn Flow offers windsurfing lessons as well as kitesurfing lessons. You should check this place out!

Surf shops/schools in and around Da Nang

GoSurfing surf school in Da Nang

For beginners, longboards and foam boards are recommended, as these provide more balance and buoyancy. Moreover, longboards make it easier to catch waves!  Before going out to the water and surfing, I suggest learning all the safety techniques to avoid injuries while surfing.
